A Canadian doctor, Don Gutoski, has been named Wildlife Photographer of the Year for 2015. His picture captured a red fox eating its prey, an arctic fox. Gutoski beat out 42,000 other entries from 96 countries to be awarded the coveted title. A Tale of Two Foxes was shot in Wapusk National Park in Manitoba. Gutoski spent three hours in -22℉ weather to capture the image.
The photo also represents the effects of climate change: the red fox has not only become the Arctic fox’s competitor in search of food but also its main predator.
In the category of Young WPY, the winner is 14-year-old Ondrej Pelánek from the Czech Republic. The competition is on its 51st year and is run by the Natural History Museum in the United Kingdom. The photo series will go on a worldwide tour and also go on display at the museum.
Gutoski says his winning entry is “the best picture I’ve ever taken in my life.”
